THE CAPTAIN

Capt. Adam Nowalsky has been fishing South Jersey for over 30 years!

Captain

Captain Adam Nowalsky has been fishing the waters of South Jersey for over 3 decades. Presently holding a USCG 100 ton captain's license with towing endorsement, Capt. Adam grew up fishing the waters of Raritan Bay and off of Sandy Hook. He cleaned garveys at boat liveries and worked in one of South Jersey's best known bait and tackle shops, Scott's Bait & Tackle. During college Capt. Adam mated on multiple South Jersey party and charter boats including the White Star under Capt. Ray Ettel in Barnegat Light, the Kalm Waters with Capt. Fred Kalm in Beach Haven and the Melody II with Capt. Joel Mick sailing from Oyster Creek on Great Bay. He built his charter fishing business around the 35' downeast charterboat Karen Ann II that sailed from Great Bay Marina and Atlantic City.

When not on the water, Capt. Adam spends much of his time representing New Jersey's anglers with fisheries management issues as a Commissioner with the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission. He was appointed by the Secretary of Commerce in 2015 to the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council (MAFMC), and he was awarded the Ricks E Savage Award for "exceptional contributions to the management and conservation of fishery resources" in 2025. He continues to serve as an advisor to the MAFMC as well as to the NJ Marine Fisheries Council.

Capt. Adam was a founding member of the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association where he served as Vice President and helped develop the curriculum for and instruct the Junior Mates Program. He is a frequent visitor to Maine researching his next downeast boat and visiting his two sons. His oldest, Jacob, is pursuing a Marine Engineering Technology degree with a Nuclear Engineering minor at Maine Maritime Academy; during the summer of 2025, Jacob served as Lead Engine Cadet for the Regiment of Midshipmen during summer sea term aboard the Training Ship Kennedy. Jacob's younger brother, Owen, is a Mechanical Engineering major at the University of Maine. Both young men were part of World Championship competing robotics teams while in high school, and Owen has continued that work building drones at UMaine for work in forestry. Capt. Adam is also an avid tennis player and racquet stringer.
